Understanding Rules of Origin within the context of the UK-EU TCA

Date: 13/04/2021

Start Time: 2:00 pm

End Time: 3:00 pm

About this Event

Both the UK and EU were explicit in their objective to secure tariff-free trade as part of the future trading relationship. Whilst the new Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) does deliver tariff and quota-free trade, companies need to comply with Rules of Origin (RoO) specified within the agreement to benefit from these preferential terms. Rules of Origin determine from where a product originates and therefore what duties in attracts; for companies who have exclusively traded within the EU bloc and with goods in ‘free circulation’, these rules can be complex and overwhelming. Similarly, as no two preferential agreements are identical, even seasoned international traders will benefit from clarification around the TCA.

During this webinar, Andrea Collins of The Export Department, will be discussing RoO within the context of the UK-EU TCA. In particular, Andrea will be explaining originating status, bilateral cumulation, minimal operations, product specific rules, general tolerance rule, the direct transport rule, and providing proof of origin i.e. supplier declarations and importer’s knowledge.

RoO pose commercial considerations, opportunities and challenges for UK businesses; this webinar will explore these and more.
